UNCT has decided to revive the practice of presenting the UN award to acknowledge the work of individuals/organizations in Malaysia that are seen as upholding the ideals of the United Nations in an exemplary manner. This initiative will increase the visibility and awareness of the UN brand in Malaysia and recognize the contributions and work of some of our stakeholders to both Malaysia’s development and the United Nation’s ideals and charter aspirations.
In conjunction with United Nation Day 2010, the UNCT will present the UN Award to an individual/organization in line with a particular theme. Please refer to the rules and conditions for the criteria of selection. We would like to invite all staff of UN Agencies in Malaysia to put forth nominations for this award.
You may nominate as many persons/organizations as you wish. Please include a brief paragraph justifying why you feel this individual/organization deserves the award.
A Search Committee comprising of the following Country Team members have been set- up to review all nominations:
- Mr Kamal Malhotra, UN Resident Coordinator (Chair)
- Mr Hans Olsen, Representative, UNICEF Malaysia
- Tan Sri Mohamed Salleh, Director UNU-IIGH
The deadline for sending in your nominations is COB 27 August, 2010.
Rules and Conditions
Objectives:
The United Nations Award in Malaysia was initiated in 1998 under the Resident Coordinator System. The UN in Malaysia felt that there was a need to acknowledge the work of individuals or organisations in Malaysia that are seen as upholding the ideals of the United Nations in an exemplary manner.
This initiative which the current Resident Coordinator wishes to reinstate from 2010 (no awards were given in 2006, 2008 and 2009) will increase the visibility and awareness of the UN brand in Malaysia and recognises the contributions, and work of some of our stakeholders to both Malaysia's development and the United Nation's ideals and charter aspirations.
Proposed Theme:
- The theme should ideally relate to the work of one of the three UNCT Theme Groups – Human Rights and Development, HIV and AIDS, and Gender.
- Outstanding work on Climate Change (as the UN Secretary-General's key and global priority area).
- Any other areas in pursuit of national objectives which help people build better lives
Proposed Criteria of Selection
- A Malaysian individual or organization with an outstanding track record of work supporting Malaysia's development in its various dimensions.
- Nationally and internationally recognised contributions to improving the lives of Malaysians and pursuing the ideals of the UN.
- Exceptional, innovative and committed work in the area identified.
Rules for Nomination
- Nominations are open to all UN Staff who may wish to nominate a person or an organization based on the proposed theme.
- Each nomination should include:
- a brief description of the work/contributions made by the individual or organization;
- a brief paragraph justifying why you feel this individual/organisation deserves the award
All nominations received will be reviewed by the Search Committee.The Resident Coordinator will have the final say in the decision on the winner, if there are disagreements in the Committee. The winner will be announced on UN Day 2010 and the Award will be presented on that day.
